"Shooyl Inneenyn" is a popular dance from the Isle of Man. The title means
"Promenade of the Girls" in Manx. It’s most likely that it was originally two tunes
that were put together for the purpose of the dance but the tunes are always played
as one now. The first tune is a slow air and the second is a fast reel. The slow
part of the tune is also known as "Myr Hooyl Mee Magh Moghrey Laa Boaldyn" which
means "When I went out on May Day morning".
The dance was said to have been performed by girls at the Michaelmas (the Feast of
St. Michael and All Angels, celebrated on the 29th of September) hiring fair, as a way
of attracting employers.
A video sample of the dance is available on the Internet at:

It was recorded by Ensemble Galilei on Music in the Great Hall (1992). They play it
in a medley with "Illiam Y Thalhear" and "The Flitter Dance" which are both in this
section.
